In a barndominium or shouse, the concrete slab is not just a foundation. It is often the finished floor, the heating system's home, and the single most permanent decision in the project. Everything in it must be decided before the pour.

KC-area slabs need frost-depth footings, soil-appropriate engineering, load planning for shop zones, and final in-slab rough-ins before concrete trucks arrive.
Comfort and finish
Hydronic in-floor heat is popular in KC barndos because large open volumes and tall ceilings are expensive to heat with forced air. Finish choices like sealed, stained, polished, epoxy, or covered concrete should be planned before the pour.
Sequencing
The slab is poured early and everything else is built on top of it. If it will be the finished floor, plan protection during construction and schedule final polishing or coating near the end.
